7:25PM - 7:50PM
Guest Speaker Julie McCrea
For over 20 years, Julie has been using her role as an adult educator to make a positive impact in the lives of those around her. She believes in the power of storytelling as a way to relate to and make sense of the world around us. Recently, she wrote an article for the inner-city newspaper, the Rat Creek Press, about living with trauma and its effects. It also described how people can better support and advocate for those in their lives living with PTSD, CPTSD, or any mental health issue. Her connection to suicide came when her beloved friend, Cody, lost the battle with his own mental health. By telling part of his story, as well as her own, she hopes to help change the conversation around the still largely taboo topic of mental health. She hopes that by normalizing the discussion, people will feel less need to isolate and find more reasons to create communities that are more open, empathetic, and supportive.

8:00PM - 8:15PM
Emmet Michael
"Introspective and enthralling, with equal parts grit and grace, Emmet Michael is a musician who was built on his trials. Turning to music in his darkest times, he found solace in his ability to share his heart with others through his lyrics. Drawing on his experience of coming out as queer, living with mental illness, and battling addiction, his songs carry a tone of desperation and sorrow. With soulful melodies and heart wrenching lyrics, his music conveys a message that is both powerful and vulnerable. Entirely unique, yet familiar."
